CORNSTALKERS CAJUN BAND

Cajun Dance Music

The Corstalkers Cajun Band (CCB) plays accordion and fiddle-driven dance tunes infused with a heavy dose of blues, ragtime, and old-time. Led by retired University of Illinois professor Tom Turino the CCB's members mostly hail from Central IL but play with the flavor of many places.

MATT & TOM TURINO

Matt Turino grew up playing old-time and Cajun fiddle tunes with his father Tom, a clawhammer banjo player and button accordionist. Tom has also studied music in, and has played the music of: India on vina, of Peru on kena and charango, of Mexico on guitar and vihuela, and of Zimbabwe on mbira. These and other influences come together in unique ways in the tunes which the Turinos perform on fiddle, five-string banjo, guitar, and percussion, accompanied by the powerful bass playing of J.B. Faires.

TREE THUMP

Experimental

Tree Thump brings together the unconventional instrumentation of didjeridu, violin, bass, and
drums to create funky, trance-inducing grooves that take the listener on a twisting, turning
musical journey. The result is a glimpse of the wide-open musical landscape that only a band
called Tree Thump could offer. Bandleader, Phil Clark, has traveled to northern Australia several
times to learn more about the instrument from some of its traditional custodians, the
Aboriginal people of Northeast Arnhem Land.

RESONATION STATION

Resonation Station is an acoustic band containing a quartet of vocalists and multi-instrumentalists who perform originals and arrangements of traditional and popular songs from the 1920s to the present.

They may look as though they are dressed to play a ‘roaring twenties’ juke joint, but their sound conveys a down home back porch pickin’ party with enough sweet songs and greasy blues to satisfy every appetite.

Each member of the band sings creating many lush, four-part vocal arrangements. They also change instrumentation often in between tunes, which allows the band to not only showcase their talents, but to span a wide range of genres as well. Everyone brings to the table a myriad of musical influences and experiences.
